Portable Appliance Inspection and Test

We carry out portable appliance testing on any portable appliance including computers, printers, shredders, photocopiers and all other office electrical appliances.

Each appliance is comprehensively tested by a fully trained technician, who will certify that the appliance conforms to the current required specification. A detailed portable appliance test report is then produced confirming the status of each appliance. Minor faults found during the course of the inspection can be repaired as we find them and the appliance re-tested. More serious faults will always be quoted for first.

In addition, you are provided with all the documentation and certification that you require, to demonstrate to any legislative body that you have fulfilled your obligations as an employer in regards to portable appliance testing.

Code of Practice

For portable appliances, the IEE's Code of Practice for In-service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment provides the de facto standard. While it is not a legal requirement to comply with this Code of Practice, non-compliance will be a consideration in the event of any subsequent Health and Safety Executive investigation.

Competence

The Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 provides that "no person shall be engaged in any work activity where technical knowledge or experience is necessary to prevent danger, or where appropriate, injury, unless he possesses such knowledge or experience, or is under such degree of supervision as may be appropriate having regard to the nature of the work".

The IEE Code of Practice provides that "those carrying out the inspection and testing must be competent to undertake the inspection and, where appropriate, testing of electrical equipment and appliances having due regard of their own safety and that of others".

To set a standard of training in the UK, the IEE has combined with the City and Guilds of London Institute to provide certificated courses - the C&G 2377.

Our inspectors are accredited to C&G 2377 and (as such) are considered to be "competent" to carry out Portable Appliance Testing.
